Position Summary
This is a responsible professional nursing position involved in the planning, organizing, supervising, assisting, and providing of nursing care to the developmentally disabled population in the Outpatient Clinic. This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting. A legally and professionally qualified registered nurse with appropriate experience, education, licensure, teaching and demonstrated ability in nursing practice and administration. The incumbent in this position must be employed full time and work closely with and function under the direct supervision of the Executive Nursing Director.
The Work You Will Do
Supervision, Evaluation, and Discipline:
Assumes ultimate responsibility for all nursing care delivered in the Outpatient Clinic. Schedules or oversees scheduling of daily Outpatient Clinic appointments and Transporters assigned to the OPC. Responsible for ensuring scheduling of and maintenance of a tracking system for all outside provider appointments, surgeries, follow ups and other diagnostic testing ordered. Works in partnership with the Social Workers to ensure all required consents are obtained prior to scheduling of any appointment or procedure requiring consent. Responsible for ensuring safety of the Outpatient Clinic i.e., residents have adequate staffing presenting with each Resident to the Outpatient Clinic for services. Promotes a thorough medical chart for each clinic visit by review to include all needed diagnostic test results, consults, etc. are placed in the record for easy access prior to provider appointment. Promotes communication with nursing staff to be available to assist in all Outpatient Clinic providers with examinations as necessary including engagement of a communication type rapport. Administers STAT medications, obtain, or ensure collection of samples for STAT laboratory test. Perform EKGs as ordered. Notify unit nurse of any medications administered in the Outpatient Clinic so appropriate follow up can be completed. Document in nursing progress notes all nursing interventions performed. Completes or delegates completion of all ordered consults, lab/x-ray requisitions, paperwork required for orders written by the provider. Participates in delivery of direct care in emergencies, administering and recording medications and treatments, assisting physician in treatment procedures, assisting in nursing assessments and treatment plan development documentation. Works in partnership with the Executive Nursing Director to develop a scheduling system for all Outpatient Clinic appointments and follow ups. Assigns distribution of schedule to nursing Units. Will act as Executive Nursing Director in his/her absence on days leave is taken to include, performing basic END functions of ensuring staffing is in place for the nursing units, attending scheduled meetings that the END is typically included in, and interacting with the medical providers and END to ensure quality care is provided to our residents.
Monitoring and Discipline :
Participates in the development and revision of operating procedures for the Outpatient Clinic. Monitors compliance with requirements of the Agency, Sunland Center, Nursing Department, and all applicable regulatory agencies. Implements and monitors quality assurance procedures within the Outpatient Clinic to facilitate compliance with applicable standards. Communicates regularly with staff regarding performance, changes in procedure, completes annual and special performance evaluations. Administers disciplinary action as required in consultation with the Executive Nursing Director. Conducts monthly and as needed staff meetings to maintain the formal communication system.
Communication and Professional Growth :
Serves on and participates in committees as assigned; communicates with other disciplines in determining needs of Residents, reports to the Executive Nursing Director in a fluent form, develops and presents nursing in-service training to direct care staff and other nursing staff; encourages and monitors staff participation in in-service training; attends training, conferences and seminars and other continuing education activities to maintain and improve professional competencies. Oversees the Respiratory DME and serves as the primary liaison for the Vendor.

Background Screening Requirement
