Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Biller & Coder to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for billing and coding office visits, treatments, and procedures, as well as assisting with the management of accounts receivable, time-of-service collections, coding services, charge adjustment-payment posting, and patient statements. You will collaborate closely with management to streamline billing and coding functions while ensuring accurate and timely reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with external agencies and internal teams to manage billing, coding, and the revenue cycle effectively.
Perform coding and billing for all clinical activities.
Serve as a resource to providers on coding practices and requirements.
Ensure accurate documentation of medical necessity within clinical records.
Audit infusion billing for proper documentation, including waste, to maximize reimbursement.
Educate physicians and clinical staff on documentation issues to correct errors or omissions in medical records.
Keep staff and providers informed about billing and coding changes, payer updates, and reimbursement adjustments.
Act as a liaison for eligibility and authorization inquiries.
Work with the finance team to address and appeal denials, ensuring payment is received or appeals are exhausted.
Assist clinic staff with addressing patient-facing concerns and collect patient balances, applying write-offs when appropriate.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
Graduation from an accredited billing and coding program or equivalent relevant experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in billing, coding, and accounts receivable.
Oncology billing and coding experience is preferred, including knowledge of J code billing and payer-specific requirements.
Proficiency with Centricity, OncoEMR, and electronic claims submission platforms is preferred.
BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
Experience working with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems.
Strong technological skills, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications.
